#India is the world's largest producer of #sugar, yielding around 40 million metric tons in 2022-23. The sugarcane and sugar sector is the country's second-largest agro-based industry, with ~756 sugar mills, of which 522 were operational in 2021-22. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar host 60% of these mills, with Uttar Pradesh being the top producer. Beyond supplying raw materials to the alcohols and beverages sector, the #sugarindustry contributes significantly to #fuelblending. The industry aids in #greenfuel production and reducing #crudeoil imports. It has contributed to India far exceeding its target of achieving a 10% ethanol blend with petrol ahead of schedule, and its next goal of a 20% blend by 2025. However, many studies reveal that #sugarproduction can have a significant carbon footprint. This underscores the urgent need to accelerate #energyefficiency and #industrialdecarbonization efforts in the sector. In step with these efforts, Idam Infra, as part of the UK India ASPIRE Programme, in collaboration with FCDO Services, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (ऊर्जा दक्षता ब्यूरो), and KPMG India, recently hosted a workshop on 'Best Practices in Energy Efficiency in Sugar Sector: A Path for Decarbonisation' on March 21st, 2024, at Hotel Renaissance, Lucknow. Our Managing Director, Balawant Joshi, delivered a presentation on the theme of an Overview of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) within the program. The event gathered senior officials from leading Indian #sugarindustries (such as Balrampur Chini Mills Limited and Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Limited), industry stakeholders like Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), MITCON India, and technology providers from the UK (Centrica, Carbon Clean, and Shell), and India (Environpol Engineers Private Limited, PADMASHTDAL ENERGY SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED). Following the workshop, participants visited the Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) Plant on March 22, 2024, to examine the sustainable initiatives and #bestpractices in Industrial Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization (IEED) adopted by BCML. At the end of the workshop, the following were the key levers determined to ensure a #sustainable #sugarsector: ▪ Minimizing #HeatLoss: Enhancing thermal insulation in Boilers, Air Preheaters (APH), economizers, and steam lines. ▪ Captive #CogenerationPlants: Implementing Bagasse Dryers for improved efficiency. ▪ #EnergyEfficient Gears: Substituting conventional gears with energy-efficient options to reduce energy transmission losses. ▪ #Digitalization: Incorporating energy management systems, IoT technologies, and digitalization practices. ▪ #CleanEnergyTransition: Adopting #energyefficiency measures and #renewableenergy sources to achieve a shift towards cleaner energy sources. • Energy management system @Sarda energy and minerals, pvt. ltd. Sarda energy and minerals private limited has two division, The SID and WRL department. They consume Electric power for meeting its production in metric tonnes. For this they need shift wise production report. They also need shift wise electricity consumption report. They also need machine wise electricity report. The implementation of MARC demonstrated many advantages to the operations. Marc was implemented for 45 meters in SI department and 50 meters in WR department. All energy-related data was automated and free of human intervention.  Manual data collection was eliminated which resulted in saving time, effort & bringing higher accuracy. The reporting system foremost was made more sophisticated as digital reports were generated, making it easier to process, analyse, and act.  The report format of SMEL was highly customised. This expectation was fulfilled by MARC as all the reports which were generated by the software were built in the legacy formats. The comparison amongst the reports was achievable since the received data was easily accessible.  Based on the data it was easy to make operational and expense analysis. They could analyse which department and which meter is consuming more power in which shift. Accordingly corrective action is taken and a notification was sent if power consumption was significantly varies beyond threshold. The overall system is optimised. Certified Energy Auditor committed to make the world a Safer and Energy Efficient place

Effective overload protection is crucial for the safety and reliability of electrical installations. However, violating the golden rule of protection device selection is a common cause of equipment failures and hazards in residential installations. For instance, a 1.5sq.mm Cu Cable is often derated to 10-12A despite having a standard current carrying capacity of 15A. As per the standard, the MCB backing this should have a rating less than the derated capacity of the Cable, and a tripping current within the safe zone of the Cable. Ideally, a 6A or 10A SP MCB should be used to ensure reliable protection. However, it's alarming to see that some installers connect a 1.5sq.mm wire to a 16A MCB, which is technically wrong and extremely dangerous. Remember, safety is more important than budget. If the M/C OEM asks for a 16A socket with a 16A MCB, kindly use a 2.5sq.mm or 4sq.mm Cable for wiring. Let's prioritize electrical safety above all else. #electricalengineering #electricalsafety #mcb
